Teaching

Heather has been teaching music since 1999 and loves to help all students to reach their personal goals with music.

Her students have been very successful both in exams and performing, with some students even moving on to study at the Sydney Conservatorium (Tertiary), the Sydney Jazz Course, at the acclaimed WAAPA (Western Australia Academy of Performing Arts), and others going on to have professional performance careers.

Heather learnt the art of teaching through growing up around her musical parents (Rod and Jenny Barnes – Barnes Music), and by sitting in on lessons from birth. She has completed classical grades up to A.Mus.A, as well as a Bachelor of Music as part of her formal training. Her experience in such a wide range of genres means she is equipped to help out EVERY student that walks through the door. Heather specialises in HSC Music mentoring and enjoys watching the transformation that happens for many students in the 12 months that lead up to this important exam.

Heather is deeply passionate about the life enriching quality of music, meaning that all students have so much to gain from learning, no matter their age or current ability level.

Heather teaches singing, double bass, electric bass, guitar and musicianship/music craft both at her home studio (in Charlestown, NSW) and at The Hunter School of Performing Arts. Please contact Heather directly to find out further information on fees and lesson details.

Testimonials

‘I am retired person in my sixties and have just commenced weekly singing lessons with Heather Price. I am grateful for and very satisfied with the instruction I am receiving. Heather combines her professional musical knowledge with practical application to her student’s needs. Her bright, friendly, relaxed style makes the learning experience enjoyable and easy to understand. She is a great encourager and supporter of her students. This approach is helping me to be more confident and free in my singing. I would recommend anyone who wanted to take up singing lessons to do so with Heather. You will not be disappointed!!!’ – Bruce

‘I am a late starter with the Bass guitar and have been under Heather’s guidance for about 8 months now, having never played guitar until that time. At the outset we discussed my goals (as far as I knew them at that time) and each lesson has seen some new development towards achieving those goals, and other goals of which I was previously unaware. Heather is knowledgeable and able to pass on that knowledge, she is very patient and encouraging. Heather has guided me down different paths to provide variety in what I practice, and to expose me to various facets of Bass playing. She paces the introduction of new material to cater for uptake without thrashing one aspect to death. Unlike other (Clarinet) teachers I have been to (with the singular exception of Heather’s Dad, Rod) there is no wasted lesson time, and I approach the lesson without a heightened anxiety level.’ – Jim
